Wanting A Fresh Install Of 2.0! How Do I Import Posts.

  • I have my current version of 1.5.2 backed up and tucked away on a local pc. I also have the most current backup of my database. What I want to do is completely wipe out my db (keeping the name, just deleting tables, etc.), delete my current WP install from my host server, install a fresh WP 2.0! But I want to import my archived posts from my current db. Is this possible? If so, how hard will it be? I’ve tried the upgrade, but fail miserably every time. When I run the upgrade.php, it appears to work, but when I go to my URL (www.houseofboyd.com), it’s just a blank page, so I end up rolling back to 1.5.2 and restoring the db. Therefore, I’d like to start fresh. Any help is greatly appreciated. Oh yeah, db version is: v4.0.26

  • You should try to figure out what went wrong during the upgrade.
    Even if you do a fresh install AND you want to keep your old posts – you’ll have to run the upgrade.php because that’s the one that modifies the database table structure, which was changed in 2.0.

    I’ll give the upgrade another try this weekend. But suppose I have the same issue with the upgrade (no pages displayed), I can still backup the newly upgraded db with the new 2.0 structure, then do a fresh install of 2.0. Then how do I get just my posts from my new 2.0 (backed up) db, into the freshly installed one? Can I just import the whole thing or do I need to cut something out of it?

    Your mean Pages, like in https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Pages ?
    That might be a simple .htaccess related thing.

    I still don’t understand why would you do all that upgrade then new install then import the already upgraded… kind of thing. It just doesn’t make sense. The DB is a very complex thing and the tables many times are inter-related, so I am afraid you cannot just selectively pick – unless you are really knowledgable what are you doing!

    When I do the upgrade, I can get to the admin page no problem whatsoever. But if I go to my url (https://www.houseofboyd.com), I just get a blank page, nothing…even after a refresh, still nothing..browser shows that it’s done loading the page..all plugins had been deactivated before the upgrade.

    Try changing the theme ?

    I did. Before I did the upgrade, I went back to the default WP theme. It’s got me puzzled..
