That’s outside the scope of the plugin.

Would be interesting to have a hook for inserting your own fields, though.

    Gotcha.

Like, using a post custom field as a taxonomy? Sounds nifty.

Then all one would have to do to get ‘author’ to work as a taxonomy is to synchronize the post author’s full name and a post-author custom field.

Or am I totally off-base with what you’re actually thinking?

No, I was thinking of adding your own author dropdown.

Not sure what you could do for checkboxes or ‘list’ mode.

Gotcha; so if I understand properly, what you’re thinking of is drawing the querying/display info directly from the posts’ ‘author’ entry in the DB (as well as that author’s nickname)?

So if I’m understanding properly, what you’re thinking of is building a system that allows users to (somehow) draw query information from existing post data, such as Post Date, Author, (Custom fields?), etc?

I’m traking with you here that ‘author’ checkboxes would be silly, because checking 2 authors will always lead to no posts since each post has only one author.

However, I think it should work okay in ‘list’ mode, because when you click an author link in the ‘list’, the rest of the authors will disappear in the immediately resulting query page.
