Post editor stopped working

  • Post editor on one of my two sites stopped working some time today and hasn’t come back. Visual editor does not function. Cannot switch into HTML editor. Visual editor display shows the image icon (“Upload/Insert”) but no menu buttons. I can select the contents of the editing box to make it visible, but all I get then is raw code.

    The last time I created a post on this site, I had to use an external HTML editor, copy the code, and paste it. That worked.

    I have tried to enter my site using two separate physical machines and two different brands of browser (Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome). No joy. Then I asked a fellow site admin to log in. She couldn’t get the post editor to work, either. Have submitted a ticket to my host.

    I have WordPress on another site on another host. I have no problems with post or page creation/editing on that other site.

    The site has 753 published posts and 3 static pages.

    The following 25 plugins are active:

    Jetpack
    Post video players, slideshow albums, photo galleries and music / podcast playlist

    Note: the tech at my host (Bluehost.com) tried disabling the plugins. That did not solve the problem.

  • This generally happens when you switch between editors (visual and HTML). To prevent this, you should continue with anyone editor for one post.

    Though your host tried disabling plugins, you may try these steps before you go to serious trouble shooting:

    – Deactivate all plugins, delete the inactive ones,
    – Switch to Twenty Eleven theme
    – Reset permalinks to default

    If the above steps fail, reinstall all WordPress files and folders except wp-contents.

    Make sure you backup everything before trying anything.
