For Premium Themes, Is a Child Theme Required?

  • I’m looking to purchase a premium theme for a website, but I’m curious how themes updates work with premium themes. Does the developer update erase the code changes I make? Do I need to create a child theme?

  • That’s something you would need to discuss with the theme vendor in each case.

    Usually with premium themes it is best to put any changes in a child theme so that they dont get overwritten if and when they release an update.

    However, this does assume that the theme is child-friendly. Not all themes are – commercial or free.
