Using connection meta to choose thumbnail?

I’m hoping to add a connection field that allows a user to choose a custom thumbnail for the connection.

One way I’ve considered implementing this is a drop-down populated by images (or image names) of attachments from the target post.

Any thoughts on how you would tackle this?
