I have been spending some time building a website for a friend. I installed WP in a subdirectory on the site while working on it.

When I finished I wanted to move the site to the root-directory. I saved everything on my computer (from the FTP-client) to make sure nothing went wrong. Then I followed the instructions given here https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Moving_WordPress and moved the site to the root.

Once moved I could log in to the dashboard but when I pressed anything on there I got the “error 500” message.

I desided to start over and removed everything from the server (with my FTP-client) recreated my old subdirectory, and then I put all the files I had saved on to my computer back in the subdirectory.

Now when I try and access the site it looks all messed up and when I try to log in I get a Error 404, “not found on this server”-message.

PLEASE HELP ME!? What can I do?!

I fixed it! By logging in to phpMyAdmin and changing the site URI in the “wp-options”-panel everything went back to the way it was before I tried to move the site.
