    Hi,

I’ve got a twenty eleven child theme with a header that’s got way too much space and I don’t know how to reduce it. Youtube tutorials have resulted with no results. I’m using cyberduck FTP to make any changes to the child theme folder.

I’m trying to figure out coding but I’m real new to this.

    Any help is appreciated.

What code have you tried so far?

Non yet, I’ve downloaded the header.php from the twentyeleven theme to copy, change and then upload to my child theme but I haven’t figured out how to make the changes needed to reduce padding and change the margins to widen out the page.

Chances are that you can modify the spacing in the CSS code — margins and padding are not in the header.php file. Try using Firebug to work with the CSS code — it will show you exactly what code is determining spacing on the page. Or post a link to your site and someone may be able to give you more specific help.
