• Hi Guys,

My wordpress site has been hacked see here (www.moodalchemy.com/articles) and after searching for a solution, for the last few hours I am at a loss at how to fix it. It doesn’t seem that major, it simply targets the post page with the result being what you see in the above link. Does anyone have any suggestions of files to look in? Is it saveable, or do I have to remove wordpress from my directories and do a clean install/update?

Also I used the ‘export’ function to maintain a backup of the site -> am I screwed?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Andrew

  • If you create a new article, does it have the same hacked content instantly?

You can do an export to see whether your content is permanently replace with a hacked content. If there’s no evidence of that, then you could rescue your content to a new install. Else you maybe out of luck without a backup.

Actually, the articles themselves aren’t hacked ( as far as I can tell), it just redirects from the posts page to the hackers page. If you go directly to the posts via the correct link they are still there – and look fine. Its just if you try to access them thru the posts = articles page thats when you get the hacked message.

Could not visit your site. It was down.

You might want to check whether your plugins or themes could be exposed to security vulnerabilities or malware.

Backup your WordPress folder and database. Use a clean WordPress folder to reinstall.

Thanks to those who tried to help, my issue has now been resolved. The hacker had gotten in thru an old version of wordpress and changed my theme. Being new to wordpress, I didn’t rally know how to proceed. I contacted Jim Walker at HackRepair.com, and he fixed it for me for a very reasonable price. I do not know Jim personally, I just want to give him a plug and say if your website has been hacked he can help.

I have learned a lesson – always update wordpress, always update plugins, always keep backups.
