key word root not found in content using the word

I did this: Defined a keyword, example: Light
I expected the plugin to do this: Find the key word Light in instances of Lighting,Lights,Lighted, etc….
Instead it did this: Omitted each occurrence of the root “Light” in instances of Lighting, Lights, Lightning, etc….
The copy of my page refers to many words with the keyword being the root. It’s just not being picked up by Yoast. “Red Light”!
Is the the key word search looking only for Exact matches?
