    Hi there,

    I haven’t started using WordPress but have been reading about it lately to find out if it’s the right approach for the type of website I want to create.

    I want the user to be able to choose one of three types of accounts upon registration, two of them being paid.

    I assume I can’t use the WordPress login system for this purpose (maybe I’m wrong) since each type of account will have different menus, different pages and different permissions throughout the website.

    Is there any sort of plugin or extension that provides this feature or should I be thinking about a different approach other than WordPress?

    Hi baunas, you can use the wordpress role system and with some plugins you can give different user types different content and different access to content but you’ll have a lot to develop yourself… you’ll probably have just a small starting point help from wordpress … I don’t know if other system would suit you better, but I see no reason why wordpress won’t do it.

    I saw this cruise by my RSS reader earlier – might be a good starting point

    I have seen other tutorials around the web using various plugin combinations…. sorry I can’t find the links, but maybe a bit of Googling will help you find what you need – it’s definitely possible, and probably can be done with free plugins

    Thanks guys, I will look into those options and that link you gave me.
    Although WordPress would help a lot with lots of custom themes, controls and plugins, I feel it’s too blog oriented and might not serve my purpose.

    Although WordPress has it’s roots in blogging, it has come a long way – it’s the number one CMS now, not just in blogging

    See what folks are doing! WP is great for pretty much anything, there is just a bit of a learning curve until you understand how to make it do what you want!

    Is another article with more info about running a membership site. There are plenty of resources around – a lot of folks do things similar to what you are after
