    Hi,

    Relative newbie to WordPress, not code savvy and first time poster!

    Neither I nor visitors to my site https://www.robpackphotography.com nare able to leave comments. When a comment is posted the following error message is returned; “There was an error submitting your comment. Please try again”

    Comments previously worked till the 05/10 so obviously something has changed but not sure what. I have searched previous forum articles and although one has the same error message it doesn’t really solve the problem.

    I have tried;
    Deactivating all of my plugins
    Resetting to default my permalinks
    checkinging that the index.php exists in my wp folder (this was recommended in one of the topics)

    None of these have worked and I’m really struggling. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Sorry – should have said. Yes I tried this and still didn’t work. I’m able to create and other new content just not comments.

    Really bugging me!

    Did you check your comment settings (dashboard > discussion)?

    Just a quick update.

    I have discovered that it is able to post comments via the dashboard in reply to other comments. It is still not letting me, or anyone else, post a comment from the normal ‘comment’ box at the foot of a post.

    At first I thought it was a maybe a problem with my server but now I think its something to do with the ‘comment’ code/widget? Either its not pointing somewhere it should or I don’t know what.

    Does this give anyone any ideas what I should be doing?

    FIXED IT

    I downloaded 3.4.2 agaiun and compared the code in my comments-post.php (or whatever it was called) with the re-downloaded one.

    They were totally different. I’m not sure if a plugin substituted teh new stuff but having replaced it withthe fresh download it all works fine.

    Pretty weird but there you go.
