If you’re trying to start a new site using WordPress, without messing with the existing website, you can likely create a subdirectory and install WP in there.

For example, if your site is https://example.com, you can upload/install WordPress in https://example.com/wordpress

Once the site is finished, you can follow the instructions in the Codex for moving the site up to https://example.com

Are you certain I will not mess with the existing website It is a communnity sport one that is still active and It would be disasterous if I messed it up being such an ametuer

I can’t say with certainity since I’m not familiar with the current site; however, it *should* work just fine and I’ve done similar on other Joomla-based sites while working on a new WordPress-based site.

To prevent a conflict with an existing permalink, to be safe, you can use an odd folder name like https://example.com/newwordpresssite2012 to be certain there are no conflicts there.
