Visual Editor tab not active

It’s not happened on any of the 13 sites I upgraded a few hours ago, so this is specific to your site. Have you tried:

– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

– switching to the Twenty Eleven theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

– re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

Thank you for replying. Numbering your suggestions, I did try 1 & 2 in the course of the fixes I already tried, referenced in my post. And I wouldn’t have a clue as to how to do #3 or 4.

I’m not a software engineer, just a somewhat above-average end user. Since I rely on WordPress to create content, I can’t spend hours, trying to learn the nuts and bolts of Web admin.

Judging from the number of posts about this issue, and similar issues, over the last day or so, it appears that version 3.5 has broken many users’ panels.

Upgrading to 3.2, 3.3 and 3.4 went flawlessly and took one minute. I was able to get my Web host to restore my sites to the latest iteration of 3.4. Since that’s working, I think I’ll wait and see what happens.

All of the issues seen thus far are site, theme and/or plugin specific. There are no known bugs in WordPress 3.5.

Do you know how to use FTP or whatever file management application your host provides? These are skills that any site owner should have.

I cant get “Text” to work, for when you are posting code or widgets.

I find it frustrating I have to de activate ALL of my plugins. man.

If you haven’t modified .htaccess manually, look for plugins and/or code snippets that add stuff to .htaccess

@libbyblackley & @rootside: As per the Forum Welcome, please post your own topic. Your problem – despite any similarity in symptoms – is likely to be completely different.

Then simply don’t use any plugins unless you developed them. That way… you can be certain there are no issues or conflicts with any of them.

Unfortunately… not all plugins are actively maintained and developed. It’s possible you have an old one… or one which no longer works with WP 3.5.

Most of the time… the very first step is deactivating plugins… since this is where 80% of conflicts originate.

I know it’s a PITA… but a very necessary step in troubleshooting.

This is weird, but it happened. I backed up the sites again, and updated to WordPress 3.5, using the exact same method as I did before (automatic, one-click). This time, the Visual Editor tab works perfectly. Spooky, huh?
