On a localhost install, using MAMP 2.0, I have just set up multisite under WP 3.5. After creating a second site, I’m not able to access the its links under ‘My Sites’ e.g. ‘Dashboard’, ‘Visit Site’ etc.

Instead, a MAMP PRO screen is displayed showing…

MAMP PRO – manage your websites locally

The virtual host was set up successfully.
If you can see this page, your new virtual host was set up successfully. Now, web contents can be added and this placeholder page1 should be replaced or deleted.

    Server name: localhost
    Document-Root: /Applications/MAMP/htdocs

    1 Files: index.php and MAMP-PRO-Logo.gif

I’ve set up MultiSite once before and had no problems. I followed the same procedure modifying wp-config.php and .htaccess.

Any thoughts on what’s causing this behavior?

    Subdomains or subfolders?

Thanks for responding Mika. I’m using subfolders.

I don’t know if this is relevant, but before turning on multisite, I renamed the wordpress directory from ‘localhost/wordpress’ to ‘localhost/blog’. That’s the ‘route’ to my orignal site and links for the original site work, but not for any new site e.g. localhost/blog/site2.

When you renamed the directory, you updated the site and home URLs right?

I’m not able to access the its links under ‘My Sites’ e.g. ‘Dashboard’, ‘Visit Site’ etc.

What URLs are they sending you to? localhost/blog/site?

Yes, I had updated the site and home URLs. In the Network Admin Dashboard, I could see the new sites listed as well as find them in the database. But when I clicked any of the links e.g. localhost/blog/site2, I was taken to the MAMP-PRO-Logo.gif which contains the text shown in my original post. Wierd.

Since I needed to get some WP work done, I did a clean reinstall of MAMP & WP and am working w/o multisite for now. I’m thinking that there may have been some older file or config infor laying around from a failed MAMP installation. Just a guess…

Thank you so much Mika for responding!

I too have a multi-site with sub-folders and have reached 22 sites. The last one of which is not able to access the links.
This is so weird – has anyone else had this problem?

That sounds like something in MAMP isn’t set up quite right, I agree. It’s weird, the bog standard install usually works.
