How do I set it so a product has the drop down menu for sizes, and colors?

A product can be set as featured by clicking on ‘quick edit’ and then selecting ‘Featured’. You can also select Featured by editing the product directly and then clicking on ‘Catalog visibility’ on the right hand side.
