Editing the style.css file

You will probably need to start customising your theme’s CSS – possibly via a child theme or a custom CSS plugin.

can not locate the style.css they tell you needs to be changed

this would be different for individual themes;

what theme are you currently using?

for instance, try working with a browser inspection tool (such as Firebug) to find out which styles are responsible for formatting the widths of the sidebar and content of your theme.

I am using the default twenty ten theme.

If I had been able to find one that actually told me how to find the style.css file instead of simply saying I needed to edit it I would not have made this post.

There doesn’t seem to be a style.css file in any of my WP folders.

Thanks for the info but there is no style.css file visible when I try to use the theme editor.

Will take a look at the jetpack option.

Can’t imagine why it’s not visible in your editor, but you should not need that anyway if you use the custom CSS via jetpack.

I was accidently looking in the twenty twelve instead of the twenty ten and twenty twelve has a css folder. That is where I was looking. Once I read your last post I looked in the root wp-content folder and found the style.css file without any trouble.
