I’m using 2.0.1, which I installed a few days ago. My comments show on the post page, but the “number” of comments by each post on the main page no longer updates. If there are 20 comments it doesn’t change from 0.

    please advise,

    thank you,

    David

I’ve reinstalled the whole program for wp 2.0.1, but comment numbers do not show. I switched to a new theme, but it made no difference. Please advise.

ANybody have any idea why wp 2.0.1 won’t update comments numbers? I have two blogs using 2.0 which work fine, but I’ve installed 2.0.1 twice, even after disabling all plugins and reverting to default theme.

Any other suggestions as to why this is a problem?

Are there permissions I need to set somewhere?

    thanks,
    David

This is most likely a plugin issue. What plugins do you have installed? Do you have Spam Karma 2 installed? If so, make sure you have the latest version.

And have you tried making a new comment on a post after disabling all your comments?

This issue arises from that the comment count is now stored in the post table so that WordPress doesn’t have to also query the comments table and then sum up the comment total (a lot more work for the server). That “cache” won’t update either unless you do something to make it update (i.e. make a new comment, delete a comment, mark a comment as spam, etc.).

Thank you so much. I installed the new spam karma, added a test comment and the comment number shows now.
