You can look into using PMPro along with the PMPro Register Helper plugin here: https://github.com/strangerstudios/pmpro-register-helper

You can use the register helper to add profile fields. You can use custom code to redirect users away from any page that isn’t the profile page. Here’s a starter for that: https://gist.github.com/1332730

We are working on an update to the register helper plugin that has frontend directory listings and frontend profile pages for members. These updates should be released over the next week or so.
