Visual Editor is disabled for posts in draft or pending

go to Posts & Links > Formatting filters:

Set to Expose Syndicated….

That did it for me:)

Thanks for documenting the problem and solution.
I had basically the same problem, except that in my case, all posts that were syndicated were not editable using the Visual Editor.

Your recommended change fixed the problem and now all of the posts that I consume/syndicate, can be edited using the built-in visual editor.
