Error submitting sitemap in google web master tool

This is marked as resolved but I don’t see the resolution. What was the fix?

Have tried to use this plugin for several months – but Google always rejects the sitemap with “Your Sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead”

It would be real nice to have the “solution” posted, because this is potentially a great little plugin… !!!
