• Hi all

With the twenty twelve theme I’m trying to add the Addthis Follow widget into my header. Once in my header, I want to align it to the right of the header (where my company name is now on the left, just to the right of that but aligned also to the right)

    BUT,
If I go to my dashboard and go to widgets, it only allows me to drag it into my sidebar or into a “1st front page template” or “2nd front page template”. I don’t see how or where I can drag it into my header

Isn’t it just a oneliner I can add to the code of my header?

I’m a bit new to wordpress (In the old days I use to code just plain old html using notepad)

Logic tells me that the widget should be able to be added as a oneliner anywhere, since it should pick up which follow buttons I want from the settings page of Addthis follow where you put your address for facebook, twitter and pinterest for example?

Please help a newbie with some step by step. I’m sure i’ts just a simple thing I’m missing…

  • Hello Morne,

AddThis Follow plugin is a widget, and the placement depends on the theme you are using. Theme developer can specify particular sections in the theme where a widget can be placed. Since the header was not designed by Twenty Twelve as a section where a widget can be placed, follow widget cannot be placed via Widgets menu in WordPress.

Unlike AddThis Share plugin, this is a widget and cannot be triggered as easily. My recommendation is to use the code generated from here: https://www.addthis.com/get/follow, and place it in the theme html where you need to present the buttons. Let me know if you need any help on this.
