For the last few days, my site – https://youthworkinit.com/ – has been running extremely slowly at times, or just not loading at all.

I’ve called the GoDaddy who are hosting it and they don’t believe it’s anything their end and think it’s a plugin issue.

I’ve used their P3 plugin to identify which plugins are taking the most time when loading the page and it looks like SEO Ultimate is the biggest culprit. However, I’ve had this plugin installed for about 12-18 months and it hasn’t really been a problem before.

When running the P3 scan though, it showed the following message:

Warning: uasort() [function.uasort]: Array was modified by the user comparison function in /home/content/02/7413802/html/wp-content/plugins/seo-ultimate/plugin/class.seo-ultimate.php on line 552

This would seem to back up that it’s an issue with SEO Ultimate, but searching these forums for “line 552” seemed to show up a similar message but for other plugins.

Is this therefore an issue with my theme rather than the plugin?

  • Have you deactivated ALL plugins and tested site for issues? If OK at that point, activate one at at time and test site…when issue re-appears, then you have isolated the problem.

I’ve deactivated all plugins and removed all the widgets in the footer. The site’s loading up a little faster, but it’s still pretty slow. Would there be anything else causing this issue?

OK, so I just re-installed SEO Ultimate and the site slowed way down, so it does seem to be this plugin.

It works fine on another site I have though that uses the Genesis Framework and a different theme. Is there any way of working out if there’s a compatibility issue between the theme and plugin?

In the end I’ve migrated all the data from SEO Ultimate to Yoast WordPress SEO using SEO Data Transporter. The site seems to be loading at normal speed now, so hopefully it’s all resolved now.

You have seemingly just discovered there is. Contact theme and plugin dev. and note your results…they will both very likely be both helpful at a resolution (over time) and appreciative of your troubleshooting and reporting steps.

There are ‘tons’ of plugins and themes, testing each combination is unfortunately not realistic.
