Alter Default Gallery Shortcode

    I am having difficulty figuring out how to alter the shortcode WordPress inserts as part of its default gallery functionality. The shortcode being generated looks like this:

    [gallery ids="1,2,3,4"] where the numbers are image ids.

    I would like it to automatically add link=”file” so that it looks like this:

    [gallery link="file" ids="1,2,3,4"]

    Where is the code I should edit and what exactly should I be editing?
