The following error has occurred in WordPress: https://www.cerebellum.biz does not open (Firefox prompts me to save the page) however https://www.cerebellum.biz/?cat=1 does.
A possible cause for this error is that I’ve changed my host name and IP on the RHES server hosting this website while working through some DNS issues. Other machines on my LAN are able to open the (first) URL, so I don’t know if this problem is limited to the host, but in any event I’d like to fix the problem on my server.

At a guess, sounds like you may need to edit your “site_url” and “home” URI values to match the hostname?

Handy little article on how to do that if you can’t get logged in: https://www.tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/site-url/

Thanks, I’ve been working DNS issues all day, I’m back…I can log in but the options page is buggy because when I removed the blog address (since it’s the same as the wordpress uri) it reverted back to its old setting. I have another site on the same server running a more recent version of wordpress, which has no bugs. I can’t see which release each one is (they’re both 1.5, but there’s a third digit I can’t find) so I have two choices: run both sites off the other version of wordpress, which involves some research since I’m working with separate domains and of course directories, or upgrade the site in question to a more recent version, which will involve backing up databases etc. I haven’t installed PHP Admin, as I prefer to use the SQL backup tools, but I have to study that first.
Anyway if I’m missing something let me know, and if there’s a way to look up the exact version number that would help, thanks.

re: version – check the bottom (footer) of any admin page.
(or, view the source code of any WP page and you’ll see there – unless you removed it)

Interestingly, both show up as version 1.5.2 in the admin tool (my web pages are using a template so I don’t see it there). Guess I’ll just upgrade to version 2, thanks.
