Buddypress ignoring page templates? Cannot seem to get an answer!

I’ve asked this a few times over at the BP forums and I cannot seem to get an answer. This is one of the only things preventing me from launching my site. I’ve installed the latest BP version (1.7) and that certainly works better than the previous version in terms of theme compatibility. But I have another issue. Is there a reason that the BP pages seem to be ignoring my page templates? Regardless of which template I assign to the BP pages, they appear as 3 column pages, which kind of smashes the content in the middle. Ideally, I’d like to either have a left sidebar and nothing else, or no sidebars on the BP pages. Is there a way to do this?
