    Hi,

thanks for a great plugin – works great and the true test of any backup is a restore which I had to perform due to a faulty plugin (not BackWPUp), which worked flawlessly.

My only criticism now I have upgraded to version 3.x is I see there is only the option to be sent an email if a backup fails.

Personally I’d rather have the option of being sent an email every time the backup runs then first thing every morning as I’m checking my emails I have peace of mind that night’s backup ran successfully without having to visit my site to check.

Hope this is something you consider adding in the future to an otherwise great plugin.

    Cliff

  • Hi Cliff,

I assume you are looking at the “General Settings” on any individual job where there’s an option: “Send mail with log only when errors occur during job execution.”

If you think about it, UNchecking that option means you want an email every time a job runs. It works for me.

    Cheers,

    Ron

Well I tried that and never received any emails (like I used to in 2.x), so I don’t know what’s going on.

Are your backups running every night? Is that set with wp-cron?

That actually doesn’t work for me, and I’m having to use a cron job on another server to call the nonce url.

But I do get an email every time the cron job kicks off a backup.

Just wondering because it does seem to act differently for different folks — it’ll be interesting to see if I get consistent results when I start rolling it out to different blogs now that I’ve got this one working.

By the way, just a thought — I wasn’t getting my emails at one point, but I’d just had a typo in my email address — also, is your wordpress installation in a production environment? Is there any chance it’s not able to send out email?

    Hello,

the last setting ‘Send mail with log only when errors occur during job execution.’ on the general tab not checked and a email adress given the mail will be send every time a job finised.

The mails will be sent by the WordPress default functionality (wp_mail()). That means if the Blog kan send mails it must work with BackWPup too.

wp_mail is working, tested it with this script:

“Send mail with log only when errors occur during job execution” is not checked.

Backup is working but i didn’t receive any status rapports.

Thanks for the replies. Like I said, this was working fine under 2.x (got the emails fine).

Same job under 3.x doesn’t send me the emails.

I even tried deleting re-creating the job in case the upgrade/ new version changed something but still no emails ??

    Hi Cliff,

I’ve upgraded to 3.0.4, and in my specific installation it’s working fine — there may be other problems I’ll encounter when I roll out to other blogs.

However — the one-off “run now” still doesn’t work, I’ve fed back to Daniel regarding that.

You haven’t answered this — are you sure the backup is working (other than the emails)?

If it isn’t, then I would guess it’s failing before getting to the step of sending the email.

If it is, try sending to a different email address, or check your junk mail folder. Also, if your sending from address is the same (or ultimately goes to the same mailbox) as your send to address sometimes providers don’t bother (I’ve frequently had this problem with Google) actually pushing it through — so make sure your send from address is totally distinct (maybe take out a virgin ymail or hotmail account just for testing).

    Hi Cliff,

everything rboyz said and: I’m sorry, I can’t reproduce the behavior. I’ve just tested the email feature in a productive environment and everything works as expected.
I’m going to mark this topic as resolved as it most likely doesn’t relate to a remaining bug in BackWpup. However, if you follow rboyz’ recommendations and it’s still no luck, please don’t hesitate to open a new thread.

    Thanks, Cas

VERY weird – I changed NOTHING since my last comment and this morning there was the confirmation email which is great, but a bit disconcerting that it was working, then it stopped post upgrade, and now it’s working (so far) without my touching the site.

Glad to hear and thanks for the feedback. Let us know if you have problems again.

Too bad Cliff — there’s your lottery win luck wasted!
