    Hi,

Thank you for this wonderful plugin, and most of all for continually supporting this.

I tried to look this up on the support forums and documentations but the closest I can get is in the extensions, “Automatic URL conversion + Advance Editor” and “PHP code in table cells”.

I have a requirement to display a table with links to download files in each cell. To input a content to the cell, The Contributors can browse/upload a file in a cell then just change the cell label to be more descriptive. It should all be done from the frontend so I don’t have to give the Contributors access to Tablespress backend and make the process simple.

And the logged Subscribers (Regular users) can just click on the filename/custom label of the cell to download the file or open using Google Docs.

The “Automatic URL conversion” can help here if I can have the Contributor upload using Add Media in the Advance Editor. But again that will mean I’ll give the Contributor a backend access to Tablepress. Plus I can’t customize the label, I’ll have to stick with the long URL.

The “PHP code in table cells” extension for sure can help achieve this, but I don’t code I only administer. ??

Is there an available solution for this already?
If not, can anyone suggest a solution?

    Thank you very much!

    Hi,

    thanks for your post.

Unfortunately, I don’t really see a solution to this ?? Tables in TablePress can only be edited from the backend, and even then it is not possible to restrict editing to a single cell.
Even the Extension won’t help here, as they only offer ways to manipulate data that is already in the table.

For a special use case as for your project, a custom solution based on PHP and mySQL should be much better, as it gives you more freedom and flexibility. TablePress is however not suited for this task.

    Hi Tobias,

I thought I can get away with this requirement already but it’s back again. Anyhow, got my requirements simplified.

In the table editor, can we have the Add Link button a browse/file upload button for the URL box? And after upload the file URL will be inputted in the URL box. I can then input a Link Text I like.

nickboss here has done a good inline uploader, this is something I am talking with the browse/file uploader: https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/inline-upload/

I am willing to give a donation for this feature as I really need this right now.

    Thanks a lot!

Oh and also I need to be able to customize or pre-assign somewhere the target directory of the files being uploaded.

    Thanks!

    Hi,

why don’t you use the WordPress Media Library for this? Basically, you can simply click the “Insert Image” button, which opens the media library, and then upload the file there. You can then easily insert a link to the file into the table cell from there.

Adding another solution is not really feasible for TablePress, as this is out of the scope of a table plugin, to be honest.

    Tobias

    Hi there,

I was able to achieve my requirements using Tablepress and inline_upload plugin. Thank you very much for this plugin!

Just one question though, how do I give a Contributor level user a Table edit access?

    Thanks a lot!

    Hi,

very nice! Great to hear that you found a solution to this!

About the “Edit” access: For that, I recommend the role manager component of the “Members” plugin from https://www.ads-software.com/extend/plugins/members/
With that, you can give the “tablepress_edit_tables” capability to “Contributor” users.

    Hi Tobias,

Thanks much for your suggestion. I found that Capability Manager Enhanced worked better for me. All works I expect!

Thanks a lot for this plugin man!
    Only the best for you!

    Hi,

Yes, there are several plugins that can do this, so it’s good to hear that you found one ??

    Best wishes,
    Tobias

P.S.: In case you haven’t, please rate TablePress here in the plugin directory. Thanks!
