Yes, I imagine Multibyte is going to be more important!

What version (number) of WordPress are you using and are you using the Japanese version of WordPress (from ja.www.ads-software.com).

The odds are pretty high that I will be unable to support this if it is a conflict between the Japanese version and my plugin, or between specific Japanese characters and my plugin. I’ll do my best though!

* I think there is no conflict between pure WordPress 3.5.1-ja and yours.
I tried without a plugin “WP Multibyte Patch” , then your plugin seems working perfectlry.
In fact, there are any bugs in pure WordPress *-ja.
Because the WordPress *-ja is just localizing, without any coding (not all of them) for multibyting.
So a great man makes this plugin for avoiding these wrong code in pure WordPress *-ja .
If there are any conflict between this patching plugin and yours, then it would be difficult to resolve by only your work…

I’m also IT engineer so I understand that it is very difficult to use mulitibyte in any language with coding.
So please, don’t hard work for this conflict.

I’ll avoid this problem in other way without any plugin!!

You could probably use category-slug.php files to alter templates per category. Might not be quite the same as what this plugin achieves, but it’s a start.
