CVS File

The column headers have to match the defined columns used by the database. Can you upload your .csv file somewhere so I can have a look at it?

Hi, I really love this plug-in.

I’m having the same problem with the .csv file. I have barcode, title, author, subject and description as the columns.

I am getting the error “Bad number of columns: 1”

Also, is there any way to to a Bulk upload through Amazon, or will I have to go in an update each title with the book title covers etc.

What I found is that I had to ensure the .csv file was saved as Windows ASCI, first of all. If that continued to throw errors, then I had to go in a manually add another line break into each line. Sometimes that worked. Sometimes just doing that, saving the file, going back into the file and removing them, and re-saving it a second time actually worked. I don’t know why.

The Amazon feature is neat but quirky. It would be really nice to be able to have Amazon pull in information much like LibraryThing does. However, this would also mean that the ISBN number column would be required *while* still adding those books without an ISBN and tagging them in some way for manual completion. I’m not sure that this plugin will get that complicated. It’s awesome for a small library, trust me. But once you get past a certain point, you’re going to want a full-blown LMS.

Granted, I’d probably PAY good money to see this plugin developed to that point, but that’s a whole lotta work for one guy. But then, if it were to go that direction, I have a whole wish list of features. LOL! But, in any regard, I can’t sing its praises enough despite its limitations.

I agree, it’s a fantastic plugin for a small library and it would be nice to see it developed further. We’re really pushing the limits of WordPress here!

scarletcarnival: There is an Open Source ‘full-blown LMS’ out there: Evergreen (OpenILS) — https://evergreen-ils.org/. OTOH, that might be more that you would want. It is what is currently in use by C/W Mars for its member libraries. It supports things like interlibrary loans, understands MARC records, and so on.

Hi Robert. You’ve been extremely helpful in getting WebLibrarian up and running for me. I’ve examined Evergreen and I like it to some extent. I found it much easier to work with than the Koha LMS though I prefer Koha for its features.

WebLibrarian, as I have said here and elsewhere, is an amazing plug-in. I’m thrilled to be using it. Is there any place that I might offer a couple of suggestions? I don’t want to be presumptuous on your time or generosity here, to be sure, and I certainly have no experience with plug-in development so I can only image the time and investment you put into this project. I’ve been working with the setup on two different sites—one smaller with less than 500 books and one medium sized with over 1600 volumes—and I’ve had a couple of thoughts that would make initial setup, at the least, a bit more fluid and efficient if such modifications are even possible (which leads back to the whole ‘I have no experience in such things’ admission).

Regardless, I cannot thank you enough for the time you’ve put into this plug-in. It is remarkable as is and very much up to the task for which it was designed.

This forum is probably as good a place as any. It might also make some sense, partitularly with concrete suggestions / bug reports to use Deepwoods Software’s Bugzilla at the URL: https://bugzilla.deepsoft.com/enter_bug.cgi?product=Web%20Librarian. How possible your suggestions might be to implement of course does depend on what is possible with the Word Press plugin framework and does depend on how much time I have available, etc.

Yes, mess-office seems to be a disaster when it comes to CSV files. M$ seems incapable of dealing inter-operatibly with standard formats.

I have facing some challenge while doing Add New Bulk

P/S: was first thought because Chinese books can’t be add, however still facing the challenge while add English books.

I imported the file into my test site without problem. You did select the “Use CSV Header” checkbox? Also: you should fix your file: the ISBN’s are formatted as floating point numbers (n.nnnnnE+12) — you need to set the data type of that column as “string” and not “number”. Also the file has 31 empty rows of commas, so 31 books are entered with generated barcodes with blank data fields.
