• Good morning,

Thank you for reading. I’m having a lot of trouble with Ecto -> WordPress blogging, for the date reason. For some reason, maybe I don’t understand it correctly, WordPress’ time isn’t the same as my time no matter what timezone I put. For example, I live in San Francisco but it says:

UTC time is 2013-03-20 6:18:52 Local time is 2013-03-19 23:18:52

    But it’s not 03/19 at 23:18, it’s currently 03/20/2013 at 7:19 AM.

Everytime I post, it won’t let me publish the post. I have to open a new post and copy and paste everything in here.

Any suggestions? Maybe I’m just being oblivious.

  • What’s “Ecto”?

It’s a blogging software. I think the problem is in WordPress though, because I can’t publish the post even when I go to /wp-admin/

Sorry – can you elaborate on exactly how you are using Ecto with WordPress?

I write my post in Ecto, the night before, and set it to post at 5:30 in the morning the following day.

It usually works, but lately it’s not working. Today it didn’t post, so when I went to WordPress admin and tried to set the post from Scheduled to Published, it wouldn’t let me.

What happens if you schedule a post manually using WordPress itself (ie not using Ecto)? Is the timestamp correct?

Hm, I’m not sure how else to word this. The problem lies in WordPress because the time on there doesn’t match my local time at all. I copied and pasted a snippet of what it says in my wp-admin in my first post, I think that is what’s messing up my posting.

UTC time is 2013-03-20 6:18:52 Local time is 2013-03-19 23:18:52

    But it’s not 03/19 at 23:18, it’s currently 03/20/2013 at 7:19 AM.

Even after I send it over in Ecto, WordPress should let me make changes in the admin page.

You will go to dashboard-general settings and select your local timezone from drop down and then save it. I think that it will work for you

Esmi, no. The time isn’t correct. Currently it is 03/20/13 at 12:44 PM, but WordPress is saying if I publish immediately it will be 03/20/2013 at 4:44 (military time I’m assuming). Thank you for troubleshooting this with me ??

Wprock, it’s set to my local time: Los Angeles. Although that’s not my city, we’re in the same timezone.

Try using one of the manual time offsets in Settings -> General.

Okay, I set it to my local time (-8). And this is what it says:

UTC time is 2013-03-20 11:52:42 Local time is 2013-03-20 3:52:42

My local time (in real life) is 12:53 PM

    Try UTC-12

    Thread Starter taraface

    (@taraface)

UTC-12 makes it 11:58 PM, UTC-11 makes it 12:58 AM. UTC+11 and UTC are both AM, when I would need it to be PM. Is this only a problem with my WordPress? I wonder why it’s acting like this.

Frankly, I think it’s a server issue. WordPress picks up a base timestamp from the server local time settings. Sounds like your server’s time is totally out of whack. Try asking your hosts about it,

Okay, I will e-mail them and let you know. Thank you so much Esmi! I’ll keep you posted.
