• Hello there,

I know that this is probably a repeat question but I can’t find a question which answers my dilemma.

I’m a newbie and I was happily editing my site using themes and the admin panel when I noticed I’m only getting one menu appear on my website when I need multiple ones.

I searched the forums here and they keep quoting code I need to change but for the life of me I have not got a clue where this code is to edit otherwise I would have happily edited it. ??

I’m using Ipower as a webhost who has wordpress as an app. I haven’t installed anything to my PC which I thought the WordPress tutorial was telling me to do. I’m not a particularly slow person but I found that tutorial very hard to follow. I guess it was because of so much jargon in it.

Have I missed something vital that tells me where this code for my website is? I’m hoping its not hidden somewhere on my webhost because I can’t find code for my website there either.

Apologies for any of you out their for my total lack of experience and asking what I feel like is the most basic of questions.

  • Hi,

Could you please post the link to your site + let me know, where would you like the secondary menu to appear? Are you managing your menus through Appearance -> Menu ?

    Thanks

    You’ll find the website at –> https://www.helenmcghee.co.uk

I would like the menu to appear in the buttons rather than the menus at the top.

And yes I am editing through Appearance > Menus but everytime I add a new menu I can either have it on default or pick only one of the menus I have created. It’s a bit frustrating seen as the only help I can find about adding multiple menus quotes code and I don’t know where that is to edit it.

This may be useful for general information: https://codex.www.ads-software.com/Appearance_Menus_Screen

You can get help with your theme here:

    Thanks for the links WPyogi.

I had a trawl through those links. I can’t find anywhere where it tells me how to get multiple menus on the theme though.

I’m not using the premium theme. Does anyone know whether I can only put multiple menus on that? I haven’t noticed anywhere it has said anything to that effect.

I’m guessing it’s something to do with me though not the theme.

I just installed the theme on a test site and it DOES have two menus – under Appearance > Menus see the box labeled “Theme Locations” – those are the two places you can have a menu.

You need to first create a menu (in the box on the right side) – then select that menu in the pull down under the Theme Locations for which place you want that menu to be.

Be sure that you are clicking save menu or add to menu after each action.

Does that address what you’re stuck on?

Ah! I see. I’m miss communicating. What I’m wanting to do is have multiple things in the menu. (I was thinking the stuff in the menu was a menu). Apologies for that!

Basically I’m wanting multiple buttons in a menu that take you to various places, but I can’t figure it out. The method I’m using is through Appearance > Menus but if you use the drop-down box to select a page to go in that menu you can only get one of them on there. If you add one then save then do the same to add a second it replaces it.

Does that make any sense? I hope that makes it clearer.

No problem – it goes both ways ?? . Forums are a bit hard to use for things like this!

Once you select the menu for that Theme Location – then you add items from the boxes below on the left side – i.e. click add to menu – then they should appear on the right side box. Is that what you are doing? If so, there’s likely a problem with your site. In that case, try deactivating all your plugins to see if any are causing that to happen.
