I am trying to figure out how to report a blog for privacy violations. I commented on a blog that does not show an admin bar to report it when viewed (and logged in). The author did not like my comment and therefore decided to make my personal email address public. It specifically states in the comments section that email addresses will not be made public (I took a screenshot as proof). I have looked everywhere and am out of options desperate to get my personal info removed after it was discolsed to be private. I know I can technically open a lawsuit but I would rather just get it taken off of the blog instead of the whole legal process. Also, if it states that email addresses are to remain private, why are authors even allowed to see them from commentors? Obviously huge invasion of privacy but right now I need to take one step at a time by getting my email address removed from the blog and hopefully some punishment to the author for violating it.

  • www.ads-software.com provides FREE software, but does not host any sites or have any control over how someone uses it. So if the site in question is self-hosted and using the free software from this site, there’s nothing we can do to help you.

If the site happens to be hosted on WordPress.COM (.COM and .ORG are not the same – see this re: the differences https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/ ), you would need to contact them about this matter. As to whether they will intervene is a different question — you can find more info about their TOS here: https://en.wordpress.com/tos/

I like many others got mixed up in the .org vs. .com but this is a .COM blog hosted by wordpress.COM. I received an email from one of the engineers but have yet to hear back. Starting to worry since I received a response immediately after my initial post but has not gone any further. Call my crazy but I have worked hard to earn everything in my life and do not want one discruntled author supplying the info hackers need to start taking it away.

Understandable – I know they’re super busy over there, but they DO get to things in the order received, so I guess you’ll just have to wait on it. Best of luck :)!
