Footer issue

Hi, there is what looks like a smiley face and a white void space underneath the black footer bar at the very bottom of my page. I recently updated the theme and this has appeard. I have tried changing everything that seemed relavent in the style.css , style.dev.css and the footer.php but nothing changes it. Help greatly appriated. Thanks, Ian.
