I created a student tutoring site for my son https://www.concentrictutoring.com/main/ with a static home page which includes a WP-Cycle slideshow, some text and an embedded YouTube video clip at the bottom. About half the time when anyone loads the page the text ends up hidden behind the slideshow. I have no idea why this is happening and why it only happens some of the time. I’ve tested on multiple machines in all browers with the same results. I didn’t want to use the slider feature because it requires large images that aren’t always easy or practical to utilize. My son and I like the layout, but we need to fix the text issue as it looks unprofessional. Thanks in advance for any and all assistance.

One other thing to mention. I tried putting a non-breaking space between the WP-Cycle and the text, but it leaves a rather obvious gap between the slideshow and the images and a huge gap in IE.

You have a div id=”rotator”. This is set to be a height of 15px. Try adding this instead: min-height: 406px;.

Just place this above your YouTube embed code

    <br />

    That fixed it for me.

Thanks everyone… neither of those ideas worked so I went straight to the source and was told it was a CSS problem, but wasn’t given any way to resolve the issue so I downloaded a different slideshow plugin called “slideshow” and it works great. Thanks again for your input. That’s what’s great about WP… if one plugin doesn’t work… just go find another.

    Hi gang

I came here because I too had issues with WP-Cycle, at least I got that working but like wisebear, I didn’t like the gaps. So I saw your post wisebear and downloaded the slideshow Plugin.
For the life in me I cannot make slideshow work?
All I get is like the direction arrows at the side of a gap

Can’t think what could be wrong BUT it does say on the site that it’s over two years untouched and might now work with new versions of WP?

I am new to all this so any help would be appreciated!

Hi Mike… what’s your web address. It might help if I can see what it’s doing… happy to help if I can.

And are you sure you loaded the same plugin I’m using… there’s so many to pick from…

Hi Wisebear (you look familiar for some reason?)

And yes I am talking about the same thing. I am embarrassed giving you the RUL as I am only just sorting it. I hate my new Brand and I only just decided to go back to ‘Built in Theme’ after making it it all swish and cool by customising it. You could go on for years ehh!!! lol

    anyhow it’s: https://cheshiregraphics.com/karma/

I have re-activated the plugin now see what you think?

Okay… your issue may be above my pay grade as I mostly use child themes from the Genesis Framework so I’m not as familiar with the structure of TrueThemes.

What I did on my site was easier because I didn’t want the long slider slideshow so I used a static webpage with some widgets and customized the slideshows plugin to fit the size of my static homepage so I didn’t have to alter anything in CSS. Have you checked the CSS for the slideshow parameters? I’m wondering if the dimensions are still set for the WP-Cycle plugin as it was setup in the original template which is much more narrow than the new slideshow plugin you’re currently using. If you haven’t already looked there, that’s where’d I start.

If you’ve already tried that… I’d probably start a new thread and hopefully get more input from an experience moderator. Hope that helps… fingers crossed for you.

The larger slider is the integral slider of the TrueTheme’s Theme (Karma)

It was the smaller slider on another page. Anyhoos, I tried all you suggested to no avail, it appears to be the theme structure perhaps. I will ask the author of the theme maybe?

    Thanks for your support

I feel your pain, Mike… that’s why I scuttled the original home page and went with a static page I could control. Of course, this was for my son’s tutoring site… not one of my commercial sites that needs the more polished look and feel.

FYI… WP-Cycle was created by Nathan Rice https://www.nathanrice.net/ who works for Copyblogger Media… this company fairly recently acquired StudioPress.com, the creators of the Genesis Framework I referenced previously. One of the advantages of staying loyal to a specific framework is that you have access to another community aside from www.ads-software.com (which is wonderful) that can frequently offer more direct theme support. However, when I tried to troubleshoot my original problem with WP-Cycle, I got no love… none… zilch. Unless I wanted to pay Nathan a small fee to answer my question. I didn’t.

It never hurts to send an email to the plugin developer directly https://stefanboonstra.com/&#8230; most are very helpful and some do charge a little… I imagine because they get bombarded with questions otherwise. The sad thing is… it’s probably something simple, but it’s probably also something specific to the plugin… I’m guessing.
