customizing field display order in subscription form

    I have had no problem installing and tweeking the code of the MailChimp Widget WP plugin to get the look we want. …With the exception of the display order of the input fields in our subscription form (in the sidebar).

    Could anyone lend a hand in how to touch up the plugin php to display in the field order:
    First Name, Last Name, Email Address
    –instead of the default (and perhaps alphabetically sorted)
    Email Address, First Name, Last Name???

    While this could be considered a relatively small thing, we think our desired form order will present a more inviting, personal, and less generic (and less backward) feel to our site than the default.

    Thanks for any help as my php skills are pretty rudimentary at best!

  • Hey Vino,

    Thanks for posting! You actually shouldn’t need to edit the plugin code in order to change the order of the fields. Instead, the plugin will honor the order that you have your fields in your MailChimp-hosted signup form.

    To edit this order, login to your MailChimp account then go to the “Lists” tab. Navigate to the list in question and click the cog/gear icon and select “Forms”. From there, click and drag to reorder your form fields the way you want (FN, LN, EMAIL). Then, save and exit.

    Once you’ve made those changes, go to your WordPress Admin area and access the plugin settings page by going to Settings > MailChimp Setup. From there, click the “update list” button at the top. You should now see your form with the desired order.
