can’t activate akismet

  • I activated akismet under plugins but when i go to click on the link to enter my API key the page just does not load, i then tried loading akismet/akismet.php manually and i get this error.

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function: add_action() in /usr/export/www/hosting/ardent11/wordpress/wp-content/plugins/akismet/akismet.php on line 11

    any ideas?

  • Is this a recent install of WordPress? That’s very odd. I’d make sure wp-admin and wp-includes folders are uploaded properly.

    yes only a couple of days old ??

    will re-uploading those folders alter any settings and such?

    I cannot load akismet either and when it asks for my api key I found I do not have one. It was not sent with my password-and now I do not know where how get it.

    butch1, i got my API key from when i had a hosted account with wordpress.com, so go there and make a hosted account and you will get an API key, click on “Options” and i think it’s somewhere there. Hope that helps ??

    Anyway back to my problem, askimet doesn’t load, any suggestions?

    I’d start with deleting the akismet piece from the web server and re-uploading a fresh copy. Make absolutely sure you’re uploading in ASCII mode, not Binary.

    Is your web server apache or IIS?
