V2.0.2 and cache

Caching is off by default in 2.0.2 but was on in 2.0.1 and
2.0

Installation of 2.0.1 created the cache directory, but I don’t see a wp-cache plugin from that install. Was it internal and no longer internal in 2.0.2?

Is the gzip option on reading the 2.0.2 cache setting?

Raul – no, that gzip option isn’t related to caching.

defaulted in 2.0.2 wp-config.php ? I noticed my upgraded 2.0.2 is still caching and your comment above made me curious.

I mentioned the cache issue at #meetup and matt said it was now off. I assume the ticket above is it.

What’s the difference between using WP-Cache and the processing in the cache.php file?

WP-Cache is “Page” caching. The WP-internal cache is more of what I’d call “Query” or “Object” caching. The former caches the generated page and can spit it back out when the same URL is requested, without all the processing, while the latter optimizes certain DB lookups by caching them on the local disk (only helps if your SQL server is slow/overloaded, really…).

WP-Cache should be useful for anyone with relatively high-use blogs.
