Child theme and php files?

You only need to copy the php file(s) that you want to change. But do NOT copy the functions.php file – that’s done differently. What theme are you using?

The “Cherry – Responsive News and Magazine Theme“! I once tried to copy the all the php files but i came across with an error. So you say i have to copy all the files except from the functions.php and the style.css as child theme has it’s own! But what i have to do if the theme has an update and i want to keep my changes but also want the update changes?

No, you only need to copy the files if and when you want to change them. The updates will work that way. If you have concerns or questions about your theme, you should ask the developer as we don’t support commercial themes here – partly because we don’t have access to them for testing or use. But TF provides support for their themes, so you can ask there if you have questions.

[And thank you but quantity isn’t necessarily quality :)! I just happen to have more free time than some of the other volunteers – most of whom know more than I do!]

Ok! But if i made changes in slider.php in the child theme and after that changes an update comes. And i want to make it, what i have to do?

If you only make changes in the child theme, you should be fine when updating your theme. Always backup your site and database before updating, just in case…

No, these forums don’t work that way – you need to be patient :). Everyone here is a volunteer so help is not always as fast as you’d like. (And BTW, I don’t know the answer to that question…)

WPyogi, in the parent theme i have a php file named “slider.php” (cherry/templates/slider.php) and i want to edit it changing some code lines. As you said i have to copy it and paste it in the child’s theme and make the changes there, am i right?

I’ve done what you said, i edit the php file but nothing changed.

What i have to do?
