• For awhile now our website hosted on WordPress.com has been extremely slow. Our files are on Network Solutions, but we build the website on WordPress, and some days we can’t load the site at all. It seems like every time our website is slow, WordPress’s admin page for our site is slow (https://mgarchitects-ltd.com/wp-admin).

Any ideas? I’ve tried to deactivate plugins, but is this something others are coming across? Today it is really bad, and I keep getting a “The connection was reset” error on Firefox and a “Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage”. It is not our internet, because all other pages and internet downloads function on different sites. Ideas? Thanks, everyone.

  • I tried to test your site at GTmetrix that gave an error that reads:
The page took too long to load - tried to analyze your site, but it took longer than 2 minutes to finish loading. ---

I used some other tools too that gave similar errors, including the site cannot be reached.

As you say it is a continuing problem, I suggest as follows:
1-Backup your site (including your database)
2-Make a list of the plugins that you use
3-Reinstall WordPress manually from a fresh download of WordPress
    4-Restore your site from backup

Apart from what @krishna suggested, you could try optimizing any database tables that have significant overheads?

We’ve been seeing this problem on MANY sites and hosts this morning – it looks like hosting companies are tightening security measures as a result of recent attacks throughout the internet – which are inadvertently blocking their users. Please contact your hosting company – the more people who do so, the faster they will get it resolved.

    @wpyogi,
I gave the suggestion as the problem is not of today or yesterday, but it has been recurring.

Gotcha, agree, but it sounds like possibly two different issues? Today’s message sounds pretty suspicious re: all the other ones reporting the same?

(and BTW, a belated congrats on your new well-deserved status ?? )!

Thanks a lot! Being belated doesn’t matter, but your support matters ??

    Krishna,

I’m seeing this on my site as well, but any chance you can go into a little more detail about the process?

I guess I don’t understand what parts you’re suggesting to keep from the new install, and what to bring over from the backup.

Or are you talking just overwrite the fresh install with the backup? And if that’s the case, what purpose does it all serve?

Thank you, all, actually, I agree WPyogi, I think today’s problem may be different than our general issues (which seem to come and go). Today we can’t get on at all, because of the error message. I’ll contact Network Solutions and see what they have to say.

But in regards to the intermitantly slow site, I think I need to try your suggestions, Krishna. Thank you for testing that! I’ll try it out tomorrow and hopefully it alleviates some of these issues!

I’m glad to know I’m not the only one with issues today, though. This can be frustrating!!

@mga – yes, totally frustrating for sure – both issues. Get through todays (hopefully) and then, yes, there are things to try with the other.

billhennings – please start a new thread for your questions.

@krishna – of course, totally! I’m always happy when you’re around (phew someone who knows what he is doing…)

First you backup your site OK? Then it is better to delete the entire WordPress installation. Then reinstall WP manually. After that you import your database. That will bring back your site. Look at the list of plugins you had. Install them afresh (don’t use old copies). Similarly put back your theme. If you have customized your theme, take a note of it or reinstall from backup.

Be thoughtful and careful, make a list of things you have to do, lest you want to mess up everything.

Okay, the trials continue. Maybe I should start a new thread for this one, but I never got around to doing any of your suggestions yesterday, but when I went to log onto wordpress this morning I get the “Forbidden” error.

“You don’t have permission to access /wp-login.php on this server.”

I’m going to assume this is a result of something on Network Solution’s servers, unless someone has another suggestion. Our website seems to be loading fine today, just can’t access WordPress Admin. Never had this problem before, so these are definitely different problems than my periodically slow site.

And a big THANK YOU for all your previous help!

Many hosts are currently experiencing problems due to mass attacks. Yours may be one of them.
