Regardless of if there are actually commments on a post or not, my main page always shows each post with zero comments. I thought perhaps the call for the number of comments in the main page template was wrong, so i copied functioning code from another blog of mine, and it still showed zero.

Any thoughts of how to correct this are appreciated!

    Thanks

  • Are you, by chance, running Spam Karma 2 plugin with a 2.x WP blog? Make sure you have the latest/greatest version of SK.

That was the case, but upgrading didn’t solve the problem — at least with the preset config in the new SK.

I also have a problem with my track back link that i just noticed. It takes me to a blank page with this notice:

    “OK
The document has moved here.[<– ‘here’ hypertexted]

    Apache/1.3.33 Server at https://www.ernharth.com Port 80″

The trackback url has the correct page url for the individual post with a /trackback/ end to it. When you click the ‘here’ hypertext, it takes you to the URL without the /trackback/ end, which shows the trackbacks.

Are these perhaps related?? I was about to post up a second request for help…

    I don’t believe they’re related.

Search around here on the forums for the SK fix. I’ve seen it but can’t recall exactly how to update it aside from manual db editing which isn’t desirable for most folks. ??

If anyone comments to one of the “0” posts, the number WILL then get updated. Suppose you could spam some comments to yourself and then delete them from your WP management area.

I have created a few spoof users to generate comments in an attempt to test the system, and they turn up “o” regardless.

Also, I have updated to the most recent SK — are you saying there is an additional ‘fix’ required on top of that? That being the case, it clearly is a SK related problem: turning off the plugin simply fixes it all together.

I wonder if Askimet is sufficient, or if i need to hassle further.

Thanks for all the help so far!

Well usually, the update to the newest version of SK gets new comments to update the comment count properly.

In other words, if you upgrade SK, enable it and then post a comment, it should update the count. Delete that comment and the count will also be correct.

As for which is better, SK or Akismet? I dunno. Both have their strong points. Seems more a matter of preference or “trust”.
