RSS Failing – XML parsing error

Have you tried:

– deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

– switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems.

– resetting the plugins folder by FTP or PhpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

– re-uploading all files & folders – except the wp-content folder – from a fresh download of WordPress. Make sure that you delete the old copies of files & folder before uploading the new ones.

I’ve tried all of those, nothing helped.

Can we see the site using the default 2012 theme with all plugins deactivated?

I’ve renamed all the plugins to plugin.hold.

You are not using the original Twenty Twelve theme. Did you customise the theme or did someone else?

You should never edit the Twenty Twelve theme. It is the default WordPress theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues (such as this one). You should first create a child theme for your changes.

I didn’t make any changes (clearly I’m not talented enough at this!). Not sure why it’s not what you were expecting. So, what can I do to take care of the RSS problem?

Is there any way to fix this problem that I’m having now? I have checked everywhere and can’t figure out where to start fixing the code above. If you can tell me where in my files I should be looking, I can attempt that.

No – you need to go back to the person who created this theme and get them to turn it into a standalone theme. That way, you can upload a fresh copy of the original 2012 theme. If that is not possible, all I can suggest is that you either use another theme or hire someone to sort this out for you.

This only started happening after I downloaded the W3 Total Cache plugin. I feel like there must be something I can do to fix it.
