My site is still local, so I can’t provide a link just yet.

    My problem is this:

I created a child theme from the old 2010 theme. When I activate it, my sidebar changes to include just “Archives” and “Meta Data.” When I go to Widgets in the Appearance section (on the left), there is a bar which says, “Inactive Sidebar,” and something like, “remove widgets to remove the sidebar,” something like that. Why does this happen, and how can I get the sidebar for the original theme to appear?

  • Widgets don’t carry over to a child theme – it’s like switching to any other new theme. Are you able to redo them in the child theme – or is the problem that they are not working there?

No, I’m new to all this, and just didn’t realize that the sidebar was a widget, or a bunch of widgets. Yes, I can certainly add my own widgets. I thought this meant that the actual sidebar had been nuked. Thanks!
