We have a custom post type named “projects” and a custom taxonomy of projects named “type”. Each type is a fairly detailed description that we are using when someone visits the archive page for a specific type of project.

None of these project types (taxonomy name and description) are showing up in our search results. I even added a unique word (abacinate) to a description of one of the taxonomies. When I try to search for it, nothing. When I search against the actual database, the only instances of that word that come back are in the wp_term_taxonomy table in the “description” category. There is also a listing for it in the wp_relevanssi_log where I turned on tracking search queries to make sure it was getting captured by Relevanssi.

It does appear that the actual custom posts are being indexed. Adding abacinate to a description (in a custom field) of a project returns that project in the search results.

Creating a new taxonomy with the name, slug and description of “abacinate” does not seem to make it return in the results either.

    Any ideas?

TL;DR – custom taxonomy names and descriptions are not getting indexed or searched by Relevanssi.

Relevanssi doesn’t currently index taxonomy descriptions. The free version of Relevanssi does not index taxonomy terms at all, in any case.

If you create a new custom taxonomy term “abacinate” and add it to a post, then you should be able to find the post by searching for “abacinate”.

With Relevanssi Premium, searching for “abacinate” will get you both the post and the taxonomy term itself.

Are there any plans to search through taxonomy descriptions? We have a client using the descriptions to basically create landing pages and are wanting the keyword-rich descriptions to get searched. I guess we could use Google CSE instead.

Yes, this is on my to-do list.
