  • I’m having a similar problem with a site that I’m trying to backup. I’m backing up Database + Files and have excluded some files to make the backup smaller. However, it is still estimated at 801MB. When I click “Backup Now” it runs for awhile and eventually gives me a checkmark next to the “Backup my 801MB site…”

However, no backup shows up in the list of backups, and I don’t get a verification email.

Is there a size limit for BUWP?

Thanks for this awesome plugin by the way! So easy to use for something that can be daunting.

There is no size limit per say, but depending on your server you may end up running into timeout or memory limit issues. I’d suggest either contacting your host and asking them to help you track down the issue or exclude some files until it starts working again.

I actually switched to a different backup plugin and now it backs up just fine without freezing up my whole site every time.

Out of interest, which plugin did you switch to?

    Updraftplus

I like how it downloads in chunks. Must be why it works on my large site.

I also think there was something glitchy with BackupWordpress, since one day it told me my site was 8gb, then not long after it was 9gb, then 10….then from one day to the next it jumped to 39gb!!! There’s no way!!! I figured maybe the 1gb jumps might be from backing up the backups, but the 29gb jump??? Not sure what the heck happened there!

How do I look and see what the true size of my site is?

Hmm, that does sound like a pretty bad issue, not sure what would explain the sudden jump in backup size.

You could connect to your size via FTP, most programs will allow you to calculate the size of the folders.

I’d love it if you could try the latest version and see if that’s working for you, it does fix a lot of edge case issues.

I’ve tried that on checking the size on the folders and it doesn’t say…I’ll poke around some more and see what I can figure out…maybe there’s a way to check size in cpanel. Problem is all my sites are in one cpanel. But there must be a way. I’ll ask Hostgator tech support if I can’t figure it out.

I still have BackupWordpress installed, so I’ll checheck it out again. But I’m pretty sure I tried it after the last update and it did the same thing, timed out w/an error message. Unless you updated in the last couple days.

It worked great for me for awhile, was a great supstitute for EZPZbackup when they stopped developing that. And I still use BackupWordpress on all my other sites and clients sites. It’s just this one site it doesn’t like.

I, too, am having the identical problem that Tina is having on one of my sites. I’m getting the failed backup notice every time, and each time I try to manually run another backup, the file size grows. It started out at 3GB earlier this morning and the last attempt just minutes ago jumped from 39GB from the previous attempt to 49GB.

I tried uninstalling the plugin and reinstalling, but it did not help.

Since this string has been marked as “resolved”, and I see no fix, I assume it was resolved by getting rid of the plugin and going to a different one. Is that what I have to do?

    Thanks.

    Hey,

I’d love to get to the bottom of whats going on here.

Could you email [email protected] so I can work with you to debug the issue in more detail.

Tom, I tried to email you at the address you gave above, but it came back as a permanent failure. I double checked the address and made sure I did not make a mistake. In fact, I copied and pasted the address in my address book. Is there another email address where I can contact you?

    Thanks.

Oops sorry, typo on my part.

It’s [email protected] (remove the !)
