Table size up by 50% after upgrade

  • After upgrading to 3.1.6, the size of the wp_relevanssi table increased by 70%. I did a re-build of the index, but the table is still 50% larger. Judging by your upgrade details, I was hoping that the size of the table would actually be less. The Relevanssi table is 40% of the size of the entire database of my site. Suggestions?

    That sounds correct. The new version has a column for the term reversed, and since the term is the largest part of the row, adding it again does make the table larger. However, the cost of fuzzy searching was so huge, this change makes sense, as it speeds up the fuzzy searching by several orders of magnitude.

    If the database size is a problem, you should probably see other searching solutions. I can’t remember the name, but there was this new WP search solution that does all the heavy lifting on a cloud server. That might work better for you.
