Category not displaying above title?

Basically, there doesn’t appear to be any categories-links span being generated in the entry-header, I guess?

And now it’s there, but I didn’t change anything, making it all the more perplexing. Any ideas why this would be inconsistent?

Ryu, as a default, displays categories when a blog has more than two categories because if there is only one category in a blog, there is not really a big point to provide the archive link. Many recent themes from Automattic follows this pattern.
