    Hi,

    I’ve just recently finished building my first wp site so I am not too experienced yet and would like some advice.

    I am using backWPup and every time I run a backup I get this error:

    WARNING: Job restart due to inactivity for more than 5 minutes.

    Then the job continues to run and it later says:

    WARNING: Job has done with warnings in 666 seconds. Please resolve them for correct execution.

    Can someone tell me if I’m producing working backups or not please. I could do a manual backup, delete the site and try to restore one of these backups, but I’d rather not if that can be avoided.

    I’ve read other people posting on this issue but haven’t really found an answer to my question above.

    Hi np07,

    please check your uploaded files. And show us your logfile (please use pastebin) that we could check it for problems.

    regards,
    Robert

    What exactly should I check with the uploads folder. Or do you mean check the box in options?

    Hi np07,

    no I mean that you extract the uploaded backups and check if you got as many files as you have on the server. Can you provide a logfile?

    regards,

    I’ve removed the plugin. Lots of posts about this issue and i’m new to wp so just need a backup in a hurry without having to do diagnosis.

    Hi np07,

    the error with “WARNING: Job restart due to inactivity for more than 5 minutes.” depends on your web hosting service. We can’t change the limits of your webspace. Backups needs to be planned carefully.

    regards,
    Robert

    I’m having this same problem and giving help using programmers jargon is no help at all.

    As far as I can tell by looking inside myWP site on my hosts server there are no usable backups… there seem to be log files… GZfiles.

    There are no backup recovery Zip files anywhere.

    The email log says this:

    Hi bilbaggins,

    first of all: please use Pastebin to share a log file, or put the code in backticks. Also, consider to anonymize paths in the log with placeholders like MY_PATH.

    As a possible solution, have you tried a different archive format than ZIP, i.e. GZIP or TAR?

    I agree with you about programmers jargon, yet please try to understand what we do here. Robert is a programmer. And for a programmer it can be just as hard to explain a complex problem in common language as it can be for a non-programmer to understand programmer language. Sometimes common language just doesn’t seem to have enough words. ??

    Not related to the ZIP issue, but also notable: splitting up large backups into smaller ones can help in a shared hosting environment with limited script execution times.
    Users see that BackWPup offers a one-in-all backup configuration and go “Howdy, that’s it!”. One backup job to rule them all, as a little reference to your username. ??
    Unfortunately, that’s where the trouble starts in many shared hosting environments, because many have security related restrictions on how long a PHP script (aka WordPress plugin) is allowed to run. Splitting up one big backup job into, let’s say, a database backup, a files backup excluding wp-content/ and a backup of wp-content only has helped in many cases.

    Hi Caspar..

    Many thanks for your assistance… I didn’t know about Pastebin so just unloaded… which was a risky thing!

    Anyway here’s hoping no-one attacks my blogs server.

    Understand the problem ezplaining things… never enuff rite words!

    Eventually I did find some backup files! They were not where I was expecting to find them. What I don’t know is what’s inside them yet as I haven’t tried to get inside them. I will try splitting the backups as you suggest… just gotta figure it out… They were sitting inside WP Backup itself. I just kept clicking on things until I saw something odd!!! I was searching my server WPBackup Folder as I thought that’s where they went.

    All easy once you know what you’re doing I guess.

    If you want to pull the previous post with my garbage in it… please do!!!

    again thanks a lot for the help! bilA

    Hi Caspar,

    you always mention the “shared hosting issue” in the forums, yet I have not seen a recommended hosting setting in any of your posts.

    I have a VPS and can modify most settings in the php.ini, for example I made the following changes to a web site the size of which is around 300 MB:

    upload_max_filesize = 128M
    post_max_size = 128M
    max_execution_time = 360
    memory_limit = 256M
    max_input_vars = 5000
    max_input_time = 120

    Maybe you can tell us what settings should be done so that these “WARNING” messages disappear?

    Thanks!

    @ Casper and Robert… I thought this plug-in was a simple easy way to backup. It isn’t so that does mislead users.

    It clearly requires a very good working knowledge of servers, PHP and so forth. Most WordPress users are “dummies” like me.

    After 4 months I still can’t get a successful backup every time – about one in 5. I am so frustrated with this that I have given up on it. I will let it run as is and hope for the full backup to occasionally be effected. I have a concern it may be filling up my server with useless files aka junk.

    I understand that writing a program for all “environments” is a complex task. But that’s what BackWPup is supposed to do isn’t it? Maybe this plugin need a major overhaul???

    Does anyone knows a good user friendly backup plug-in to work with WP?
    I am not an expert and I need an easy to use backup, please help. :'(

    This plug-in keeps on giving me these messages:
    WARNING: Job restart due to inactivity for more than 5 minutes.
    WARNING: Job has done with warnings in 5176 seconds. Please resolve them for correct execution.

    @audreywp We’ve issued a beta of upcoming version 3.0.14 that fixes a whole lot of problems caused by timeouts. Please feel free to give it a try.

    Thank you Caspar, I will give it a try!
    Wish me good luck, ??

    It didn’t work for me… manually or auto… grrrr!!! ??

    I’d be grateful if you would please let me know what the ERROR MESSAGE means. I, too, don’t know my way around the WordPress world, when you’re talking about what is “under the hood”. I hope you will be able to help me to correct this (The problem started around 75% of the way through the backup). In the log report, it said that all that got backed up were the logs.

    Thanks!
