  • Hey Fred, we are really sorry to hear that some of our users are experiencing some major problems after our latest update, which included a brand new thumbnailer. This is really concerning for us and we are sincerely sorry for any inconveniences we might have caused!

Of course we are very eager to help you out on this! Any chance you could send us the link to your blog so we could have a closer look at it? I’m sure we can work something out!

Here’s my email address: [email protected]

Let us know what’s up and we’ll do our best to help you out! Take care & we’re looking forward to your reply!

    Best,
    Silvo

Same problem here. Is there going to be an update to fix this?

Hey John, thanks for the follow up!

Yeah, we are still investigating what could be going on with our thumbnailer, since the problem is harder to detect than we initially thought. That’s why we appreciate all the help we can get!

Any chance you could send us the link to your blog, so we could have a closer look at it? Also — do you have any other plugins installed? If so, which ones? Do you use any special way of posting/inserting/editing images in your blogposts?

The reason why I am asking all this is because we are trying to find out a pattern for this weird behavior and because we are trying to replicate it on our side.

Any update on this is -as said before- greatly appreciated! Here’s my email address: [email protected]

You can also download & install the previous version of our plugin, where our thumbnailer should work just fine.

Take care & I’m looking forward to your reply!

    Best,
    Silvo

Ok Silvo I ll contact you via email with the details

    Thanks for the fast reply

    Hi again.

Straight after my last post the problem sort of resolved itslef, but now is back with a vengeance!

Can you please have a look at it?

    Site is rideonboard.net

Hey John, thanks for the heads up!

This has happend after you updated our plugin to the latest version, right? And all of your posts (even those without images / video only) had thumbnails before that?

Let me know, we’ll gladly take a look!

Also — could you try to install our new plugin with a slightly modified thumbnailer, to see if it’s any better? You can get it here: https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/related-posts-by-zemanta.zip

We’d love to hear your thoughts! Thanks for your precious feedback!

Take care & I’m looking forward to your reply!

    Best,
    Silvo

Thanks for the fast reply Silvo.

Yes after the last update (I updated about 10 mins ago). All the posts had thumbnails before the update.

Only problem I had before that, was that some thumbnails were stretched horizontaly a bit.

Just to clarify, not all thumbnails are missing in every post. Some posts have all their related thumbnails, some posts have some thumbnails missing, other posts have no thumbnails.

I ll give the modified version a try and I will get back to you.

    Thanks for your time.

    John

    Silvo, a quick question:

Do I have to just update the “related-posts-by-zemanta/thumbnailer.php” file or is it something else that needs to be changed also?

John?— just remove the previously installed plugin all-together and install the one from the link over here: https://downloads.www.ads-software.com/plugin/related-posts-by-zemanta.zip

You won’t loose any settings, so no worries on that end.

No need to manually update any .php files.

Let me know how it goes or if I misunderstood you in any way! Thanks!

Did the new install, problem seems to be persisiting

Hey John, thanks for taking your time and giving it a shot — we really appreciate it!

But since WordPress works on time intervals to acknowledge new thumbnails, we’d like to ask you, if you could leave it installed for the next 30 minutes or so. But we can perfectly understand if you wish to switch to your old setup, with the complete set of working thumbnails.

The best way to do that is to switch to the older version of our plugin, which you can get on our developers page: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/related-posts-by-zemanta/developers/

In either case, do let me know how it goes! And thanks again for all your help! ??

Take care & have a nice weekend!

    Best,
    Silvo

No problem Silvo, I ll leave this installation on for the next 5 days or so, to see how it goes.

Have a nice weekend yourself too.

    No misssing thumbnails anymore.

Some are still stretched though. Why is that?

Hey John, sorry for the late reply and I’m glad you have all your thumbnails in place now! But the stretched thumbnails are a mystery to us. We’re suspecting because of the video thumbnails — in which size are they stored in your media gallery? Is there a chance you could change the size measurements in which they are stored in?

Also — are you using any other plugin to insert your YouTube videos (if so, which one) or are you using the WordPress’s default way of inserting media?

    Let me know! Thanks!

    Best,
    Silvo

    Hi Silvo

My theme (Videozoom) has a built in video embedder and “featured image” grabber, that is what I use to capture the thubmnails. The original featured image size is 480×360 that is then shrinked by wordpress and used in the related posts.

The problem with the stretched thumbnails, is that some are stretched and some are not. Also this is not consistent through time, some that were stretched yesterda, may not be today!
