• I want to set up a blog on my domain that is completely private–only I can read the information and no info is sent to outside sites. I am concerned that simply password-protecting the domain is insufficient. If I do this, will RSS-srawlers still be able to access the info? If I hit “publish” instead of “private post” by mistake, could my blog ping another blog that I link to and send post information? Should I be worried about anything else?

    Thanks

  • You can never be sure (maxim: if you put it on the internet, someone might find it), but some other things you can do to help…

You can totally remove all the RSS related files (search the forum for ‘private’ some previously posted instructions)

Use Robots.txt to block search engines from finding your domain

Immediately when u install wordpress, before making any posts, you go to Options > and delete the Pinging. if you make 1 post with the pinging turned on, you might get detected and cataloged on technorati etc.

also check out some plugins for privacy, listed in the Codex
