    Hello,

I know this site is not where it needs to be to get more business. I am asking for constructive-criticism feedback.

What does the home page lack or shouldn’t show if my focus is to be a WordPress specialist?

With the current design, have I chosen the right colors to imply a calm mood?

How would you change it to reflect my works better and what would you add?

    It is self-hosted.

    Thank you,
    Daniel

What is your home page’s goal?

Do not edit the Twenty Twelve theme. It is the default WordPress theme and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues. First create a child theme for your changes.

@esmi Actually it is a Child Theme.

@andrew When I first made it, it was just to be a portfolio of all my talents. Now, I think I should change the layout to emphasize more the WordPress sites I’ve created and leave the hobbies in the About Me page.

I would suggest you add about me just above the design entries and in a way “Hey I’m Daniel and i’m a wordpress specialist etc.. and a contact me option” With a picture on the side that you have here would be nice to see “You seem to be lionish”.

The background could be also a full screen picture inside a den hence thinking about fitting to the name. Now it seems more kittyish than lionish. If you can find a picture inside a den that has more punch but not too much it would certainly brand you out abit.

    Hope it helps! ??

    Hi Daniel,
    Your portfolio is great,

Just wondering, why would you put your woodwork and your wordpress designs on the same site. Both are very different from each other.

@niko Vittaniemi Thank you for your input!

@staytamed Both are related to design and art. I may hide them in the background.

I’ve refreshed the home page. Let me hear your feedback. No den image as of yet.

    hi Daniel,
Yes, this looks much better. Good work.

Now you have a good portfolio site. Congrats.

    Cheers!

    Hi Daniel,

Glad to help out! Your site looks now alot more professional good work with the info and portfolio!

One thing that could help you get a bit more Professionalism would be to use a email that is sync with your domain like daniel [at] yourdomain.com.

You can use POP3 to sync that email with your gmail and still send messages from Gmail. Everyone uses Gmail secretly but with a tiny modification you can enjoy the best of the both.

And your email comes as a nice advertisement with the end ??

I hope it helps and keep up the good work!

@nikov I do know about Gmail (since April Fool’s Day) and setting it all up. Thanks for writing out the explanations.

    @staytamed Thank you!

Any more suggestions? Poor economy where I live. Lots of bigger companies take work away from smaller ones. Would offering a Services page be helpful in drawing more work? I’m not sure I really want to display my prices because each job is different but similar to Jigoshop’s website, would it be wise to offer individual packages and up-sales with each?

@lionsdendesigns np i hope it helps!

Service page imo is good to have you can example offer WordPress udpate services for clients who doesn’t know to or do not want to bother with them. Security checks and a lot of services who are from beginner to intermediate.

I joined this program last month that is especially for website designers and they teach and talk a lot about these kinda stuff in the forums. If your interested and really willing to pump up your design business. I suggest signing up to 1wd.tv it has helped me and many others ??
